NEW COVER PAGES FOR PHIAC RETURNS (PHIAC 1, PHIAC 2 AND PHIAC 3) INCORPORATING CRIMINAL CODE PROVISIONS

Recent changes to the Criminal Code (Cth) inserted by provisions under the Criminal Code amendment (Theft, Fraud, Bribery and Related Offences) Act 2000 require PHIAC to inform organisations of the offence of providing false and misleading information.

There are three returns from Registered Organisations and Simplified Billing Agencies affected by these changes:

PHIAC 1:

Survey of Registered Health Benefits Organisations for Reinsurance purposes.

PHIAC 2:

Registered Health Benefits Organisations Financial Return.

PHIAC 3:

Statement of Activity - Simplified Billing Agents

In addition to the existing statement in these returns that the information is "true and correct" the following statement has been included.

I am aware that the giving of false or misleading information, documents or statements to the Private Health Insurance Administration Council is a serious offence under the Criminal Code Act 1995, and that the Criminal Code Act imposes substantial penalties, including imprisonment, for committing these offences.

Copies of the cover pages for the returns, with the revised statement, are attached.

Protecting consumers of private health insurance by ensuring an industry which is competitive, efficient and financially sound.
