RIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE SURVEY AS AT 31 DECEMBER 2006 BY STATE AND TERRITORY

PHIAC wishes to remind Registered Health Benefits Organisations of the annual (December) survey of private health insurance funds coverage by State and Territory. The results of the survey will enable Funds to access better information on the distribution of persons by State or Territory than is provided through the PHIAC 1 collection.

A component of the Australian Healthcare Agreements provides for adjusted payments to States dependent upon the level of private health insurance. PHIAC conducts an annual survey to provide the base data for any calculations to be undertaken.

The information that is required is found on the electronic template (survey0612.xls) attached to this circular.

Please note that the basis of the survey is State or Territory of residence of the contributor, including ACT and Northern Territory, regardless of the number of contributors in any State or Territory. This differs to the PHIAC 1 requirements where the 500 SEU rule applies.

The total for the States and Territories, male and female, for this survey should equal the corresponding sum of the persons reported in your PHIAC 1 returns for the December 2006 quarter.

The completed returns should be forwarded by e-mail to returns@phiac.gov.au by 31 January 2007.
