DRAFT PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE RULES MADE BY PHIAC – FOR COMMENT BY 26 FEBRUARY 2007

The Private Health Insurance (PHI) Bill 2006, which is expected to commence on 1 April 2007 enables the Private Health Insurance Administration Council (PHIAC) to make some Private Health Insurance Rules. The Private Health Insurance Rules (PHI Rules) provide for matters necessary to carry out or give effect to the new legislative package. The PHI Rules will be made to commence at the same time as the Bill.


The PHI Rules made by PHIAC that are being circulated and attached to this Circular include:


• the Private Health Insurance (Insurer Obligation) Rules
• the Private Health Insurance (Health Benefits Fund Administration) Rules

All interested stakeholders are invited to make submissions or provide comments about the draft Private Health Insurance Rules. Submissions or comments should be directed to:
