Dated: 16 September 2002

Administrator recommends GMF to merge with Healthguards

The Private Health Insurance Administration Council (PHIAC) today endorsed the recommendations made by Goldfields Medical Fund’s (GMF) administrator, Mr Peter Hedge, to merge with Healthguard Health Benefits Fund Ltd.

“Healthguard have guaranteed that current members of GMF will still be able to access all their usual member benefits,” PHIAC CEO, Ms Gayle Ginnane said today
“Members of GMF will be able to access their fund in exactly the same way as they always have.

“Members of GMF can also be assured that their fund will continue to focus on the needs of regional members. Healthguard have committed to expanding their Board to include representatives from the Goldfields region.

Healthguard has guaranteed that the Kalgoorlie GMF office will remain open and the staff of GMF will continue to be employed.

“The merger with Healthguard will provide GMF members with their continued level of service, protection of existing member benefits, and most importantly, the security of a stronger-performing fund,” she said.

The Administrator will now seek Federal Court approval for the merger in accordance with the process laid down by the National Health Act.
