Medibank Private Ltd Application

The Private Health Insurance Administration Council (“the Council”) has received an application from Medibank Private Limited ACN 080 890 259, for approval to convert to being “registered as a for profit insurer” under s.126-42(1) of the Private Health Insurance Act 2007 (the Act).

Under s.126-42(3) of the Act, the Council must approve such an application if the Council is satisfied, within 30 days after the application is made, that the conversion scheme would not in substance involve the demutualisation of the applicant insurer.

The application was made by Medibank Private Limited on 11 June 2009. Any submissions to the Council on whether the conversion would, in substance, involve the demutualisation of Medibank Private Limited should be in writing addressed to Chief Executive Officer, the Private Health Insurance Administration Council, PO Box 4549, Kingston A.C.T. 2604, or by email to the Chief Executive Officer, phiac@phiac.gov.au and be received by 5:00pm AEST 1 July 2009.
